Instagram has launched a new feature that lets you share posts directly to your Stories.
The feature is already available on Android and will be rolling out to iOS in the coming week.
You can use this new feature to share your own posts or any public posts on Instagram.
To start sharing Instagram posts to your Stories, simply tap the airplane icon that appears below any post in the feed and you’ll see an option which says, “Create a story with this post”.
This will then share the post to your Story as a sticker which appears on a colored background and includes a link back to the original post and the original poster’s username.
This post sticker behaves in the same way as the other stickers that appear in Instagram Stories, and can be moved rotated and resized before you post the Story.
This new feature is enabled on your posts by default (meaning other Instagram users can share your posts to their Stories) but you can turn it off by changing the, “Allow Resharing to Stories” option in your settings menu.
This is a welcome update for content creators which makes the popular Stories format much more accessible.
If you're already using Stories to reshare posts, this new feature makes the process much faster. Instead of taking screenshots of posts you want to share, manually uploading them to Stories and then manually tagging the original user, you can now simply share the post to your Story and credit the original poster in one tap.
This update also makes it very easy to get started with Stories if you’re not currently using them. Instead of creating your own content for Stories, you can start off by curating interesting posts that you find and using this curated content to build a relationship with your audience through Stories.
As they become the main way to share content on Instagram, it's essential you take full advantage of them.
Here are some ways you can start using this new feature to get the most out of Stories:
- Promote your products and services by posting about them in your feed and then sharing these post to your Story to get additional exposure
- Build a stronger connection with your audience by looking for and sharing the top posts from hashtags and popular accounts in your market
- Maximize your reach in the algorithm by resharing popular posts from your account so that they get even more engagement
